Now Hiring: part- time

The Art Cellar is hiring a part-time person to work with us.

We need a cashier with knowledge of art supplies and techniques. An engaged mind and sensitive fingers to feel the difference between 20 different fine drawing papers would make you a good fit.

Really, you will learn all that and more but a willingness and excitement to learn is a must.

The position is no more than 20 hours per week, Monday- Saturday no later than 8:30pm (no earlier than 8:30am). It is not benefits eligible and is not a good route to becoming a student at MCAD. It is a perfect place for someone that has a flexible schedule and is interested in working in a creative environment within a college. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and not complain (too much) about it;)

If this doesn't scare you,

please email your resume and cover letter (Microsoft Word Document please) to the Art Cellar (art_cellar@mcad.edu) with 'Open Position' in the subject line.

We are an equal opportunity employer.

On Friday, Oct. 29, show us your groovy costume and receive a bag of goodies from your friendly, freaky Art Cellar.

When we say goodies we mean, "Dang, that's a bag of art supplies!"

Better costume = better loot.

Do these images get you in the Halloween spirit?

Check out our creepy Halloween card collection. Many of which are Ken Brown.

Cheap & Simple Gold Leaf--the Midas Touch!

Add a touch of the fancy, a touch of the ancient to your artwork... the Midas Touch! All that King Midas touched turned to gold, and this power can be yours! The Art Cellar carries a fine selection of gilding products. Yes, gilding, the ancient art of applying thin sheets of precious metals to solid objects. Oh, but it doesn't have to be all that precious! We sell imitation leaf as well. Looks like the real thing. Add some antiquing glaze for that olde-time look. Gold, silver, copper. Real, fake... we sell it all. Come on in and see for yourself; you won't be disappointed.

You don't have to be Byzantine to use this stuff; Andy Warhol loved it. Use it on frames, objects, and 2-D art (like drawings)!

In addition to the traditional leaf, we carry a new product called Simple Leaf. Each sheet (or "leaf") is backed with waxed paper that peels off when you've got it in place. That way you can actually touch the stuff with your hands without it self-destructing.

It's almost incredible.

Simple Leaf (gold/silver): 18 sheets for $7.45.
Real gold leaf: 25 sheets, $25-$38.
Real silver leaf: $20.

Add a touch of elegance to your creative vision. Gold leaf. Feel the sparkle.

A fresh line of water soluble oil paint and accompanying mediums for artists like YOU!
(Click photo to enlarge.)

These artist-quality oil paints can magically be thinned and cleaned up with oil mediums/solvents OR plain water! (Unless you speak French. According to the label, you may only use water. Sorry.)

Go ahead and mix them with your oil paint, acrylic, gouache, and ink too!!! Holbein Duo Aqua Oils also dry faster than traditional oil colors.

One of our favorite things about this line is that it contains our first FLUORESCENT OIL PAINTS!

Come check out some of their literature, and look at all the pretty colors.

Wood Panels

Hi, there!
More and more, the artists who wield paint & brush are harkening back to yesteryear, eschewing wiggly canvas, and instead choosing rigid supports on which to express their innermost demons and whimsies.

Yielding to their demands, the Art Cellar began carrying wood panels, much to delight of our beret-wearing solvent-sniffers.

Handcrafted by burl-knuckled woodsmen at Wisconsin's Old Wood Studio, these lightweight, fine-sanded, birch-faced panels are about 1.5" inches deep, and come in all your favorite sizes and prices:
6 x 6"............. $4.20
8 x 8"............. $4.50
8 x 10"........... $4.75
10 x 10"......... $5.35
12 x 12"......... $5.50
11 x 14"......... $6.95
12 x 16"......... $7.75
16 x 20"......... $11.25
15 x 30"......... $15.65
20 x 20"......... $17.00
18 x 24"......... $14.65
20 x 30"......... $18.95
24 x 30"......... $21.95 (Note: prices and selection may change.)

This rigid surface means that your painting is far less likely to crack, which recommends it to encaustic and other thickly-applied media. Done on a panel, a painting is virtually ready to hang up and sell for thousands of dollars. It may even pay for all the paint you bought.

You may also use panels to handsomely mount paper upon which to draw or paint.

In addition, our display of wood panels features the coolest sign in the world:
